WHAT TO EXPECT
The consultation and surgery process

INITIAL CONSULTATION
The first step is to book an appointment to see Dr May. The appointment will take roughly half an hour, during which Dr May will find out the history of your problem, do an examination, and agree on a course of action. Your bill will be sent straight to your medical aid for payment. In the event of no medical aid, the account will be sent straight to you. Please do note that we do not charge medical aid rates – any shortfall after payment from the medical aid is due by the patient.

SURGERY
Should surgery be required, the procedure will be booked and all relevant information will be given to you in order to get pre-authorisation from your medical aid. This will enable the bill to be automatically settled by your medical aid to the Doctor and the hospital. It is the patient's responsibility to claim any shortfall from their Gap cover.

POST SURGERY CARE
A post surgery consultation will be booked for one week after surgery. During this examination, the Doctor will check for healthy signs of healing and recommend any additional medicine or exercises needed to return to optimal health.
"SHOULD I GO FOR X-RAYS OR AN MRI PRIOR TO THE CONSULTATION?"
The short answer is NO, Dr May wants to examine the patient first and then decide if he wants X-rays or an MRI. Most of the time this is not necessary, as there are other tests the Doctor can do to determine the problem. Should the Doctor require X-rays, the patient will go straight to the Radiology department and then back to Dr May immediately afterwards to continue the consultation. Should an MRI be required, this does need to be pre-booked. Once completing the MRI, the Doctor will be sent the report and will call the patient to discuss the results.
